UK Laws on Medical Cannabis:
​

  1. Legal Status: Medical cannabis has been legal in the UK since November 1, 2018. Specialist doctors on the General Medical Council’s specialist register can prescribe cannabis-based products for medicinal use when clinically appropriate.

  2. Prescription Criteria: Cannabis-based medicinal products can be prescribed by specialist doctors for patients with an unmet clinical need that cannot be met by licensed products. This decision is made on a case-by-case basis.

  3. Controlled Substances: Cannabis is classified as a Class B controlled drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. Certain cannabinoids, such as THC, are also controlled as Class B drugs.

  4. CBD Products: Pure CBD (cannabidiol) is not controlled under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. However, products containing CBD may also contain controlled cannabinoids, making them subject to control.

  5. Licensing: It is unlawful to possess, supply, produce, import, or export cannabis without a licence. The same applies to cultivating cannabis plants.
